The imprint method is a separate decision from the substrate, and it trades color range against permanence. Laser engraving produces a monochrome, etched mark that is the most permanent option available, ideal on metal and wood but limited to a single tonal color. Screen printing handles a small number of spot colors at low cost, a sensible middle for simple logos. UV and digital printing open up full color with sharp detail, which is what most brand-forward badges use, though a bare printed layer wears faster than an engraved one. A cafe that wants a warm, on-brand look with a modest budget is well served by an engraved wood badge. And a team whose members change constantly is often happiest with a reusable window or write-on badge, where only the name insert changes while the frame stays put.

Specified this way, the badge stops being a single product choice and becomes a short chain of decisions that reinforce each other. Pick the substrate for the lifespan and tone you need, pick the imprint method the artwork requires, and let the room you work in break any remaining ties. Do that, and you will not find yourself reordering the whole team’s badges the moment the first few start to chip.
